System Noise and Ground Loops

February 12, 2020

The components of a vibration testing system are connected by various cables that transmit electrical signals. As with all signals, these electrical signals contain noise. Vibration controllers are very sensitive to electrical noise, and this noise is often visible during testing.

There are two different sources of noise in vibration testing systems: ground loop noise and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Both sources can cause a variety of problems, such as measurement errors.

In this course, you will learn

  • What causes system noise and ground loops
  • Indicators of ground loop noise in a vibration testing system
  • How to troubleshoot the most common reasons for system noise in a vibration testing system
